Sarah Lockwood married Nathaniel Selleck, son of Capt. John Selleck and Sarah Law, on 25 January 1700 in Stamford, Fairfield Co., CT. She married Benjamin Hickock, son of Sergt. Samuel Hickock and Hannah Upson, on 3 February 1713/14 in Stamford, Fairfield County, CT. She was born circa 1679. She died in February 1765 in Wilton, Fairfield County, CT; (Sarah's gravestone says she died 27 February 1765, but her will was proved 23 February 1765). Sarah's will was dated 10 January 1765, proved 23 February 1765.

"I, Joseph Gennings do put and bind myself  a servant man unto Capt. Samuel Hickox to live with him the full time of five years--all of which time the said Gennings his said master shall faithfully serve

according to the best of his ability, his secrets Keep Close, his Lawful and reasonable

Commands everywhere Gladly do and perform. Damage to his Master he shall not wilfully do, his Master's goods he shall not waste, Embesel or purloine nor suffer the same to be wasted or Purloined, but to his power shall forthwith discover and make known to his said Master." After negative promises regarding games, taverns, etc., on the part of Gennings, Captain Hickox agrees to furnish meat, drink, lodging, and apparel during the five years and promises to then dismiss him, "Except three

indifferent persons, two chosen by the Master and one by the servant should adjudge

that the Master had not had sufficient recompense for his charge and trouble, and then Gennings was not to dispose of himself without securing his Master from one bond wherein he was bound to secure the town of Waterbury from being a charge to them." The document further provided that neither Captain Hickox nor his "heirs" were to dispose of Gennings to any person whatsoever without the servant's free

COOKE, Joseph Platt, delegate, was born in Danbury, Conn., Jan. 4, 1730; son of the Rev. Samuel (Yale, 1705) and Elizabeth (Platt) Cooke; and grandson of Thomas and Sarah (Mason) Cooke, and of Joseph Platt. He was graduated from Yale in 1750 and settled in his native town, where he became a wealthy and influential citizen. He represented Danbury in about thirty sessions of the general assembly between the years 1763 and 1783, and from 1784 to 1803 he served as a member of the governor's council. In 1771 he was appointed colonel of the 16th regiment of militia and accompanied General Wolcott's force to New York in 1776. He engaged in the effort to repulse the British in their raid on Danbury in April, 1777, and on the death of General Wooster the command of the retreat devolved upon him. He was also probably in Putnam's force on the Hudson during the campaign against Burgoyne, but resigned his colonelcy early in 1778. He was a member of the council of safety in 1778; judge of probate for the Danbury district, 1776-1813, and a delegate to the Continental congress, 1784-88. He was married, Nov. 22, 1759, to Sarah, daughter of Capt. Daniel and Sarah (Hickok) Benedict. He died in Danbury, Conn., Feb. 3, 1816.

Daniel Hickok commanded a company under Col. Samuel Whiting, 1776, and turned out at the New Haven Alarm.  At the age of eighty-four, he was placed on the pension roll for service as ensign and captain, Connecticut militia.  He was born and died in Bethel, Ct.
