MY CAMPBELL CONNECTION
MY RUSTON ROOTS
MY RUSTON ROOTS
My great great grandparents:
The story goes....My great great grandparents left Scotland to escape persecution. One was a Highlander, and one was a Lowlander, so they headed to Canada with their children for a better life.
My great grandfather: Angus Duncan Campbell and my great grandmother: Mary Ruston
Angus was born in December 26,1861. Relatives have conflicting stories that state the Campbells were born in either Inverness, Aberdeen, or Argyll. In any case, he was very young when he accompanied his parents from Scotland to Ontario. I do not know of any siblings yet. He eventually married Mary Ruston, who was born in Albion Township, Ontario. They raised seven children together of which my maternal grandmother was the second eldest.
Mary was born in October 17,1864 in Albion Township, Peel County, Ontario and died in October 1931. I have no other facts, except for her marriage to Angus and their children. Going backwards is a challenge.
Angus and Mary's children
There were nine children born, but only seven survived to adulthood: Annie born June 27, 1884, died 1944; Fanny born December 5, 1885, and died May 20, 1962;Paulina born May 7, 1887, and died June 1946; Pearl born August 16, 1888, and died December 26, 1970; Eldon born January 29, 1890; Myrtle born August 8, 1895; Florence born January 22, 1907, and died 1967.
Annie married William West of Kettleby Corners, Ontario. He was 40 years old, and Annie was 18. They lived in Newmarket, where William worked at the Davis Tannery. They had the following children: Jack, who married Alice Spratt; Clifford, who married Bertha Spratt; Mary, who married Kenneth Wightman; and Lily, who married Carl Wightman. They moved "out west" with the Campbell seniors. Will West died when the children were teenagers. Later Annie married Alf Spratt (father to the girls who married Annie's sons). They had two children: Bernice and Aries(?).

They returned home to settle in their new home purchased from J.M. Walton for the price of . They had three children, of which only two survived: Margaret, who married George Cambourne;and Earl who married Lorna Lepard.

Paulina married Harvey Carver and moved from Ontario to the Craik area of Saskatchewan where they farmed. They had three children: Vera, who married Lawson Campbell (no relation); Quibel, who married Ada Singbel and had no children, and Ethel, who married George Ehry.
